FIRST LOOK – Moving With the Times
January 21, 2022 to January 21, 2022
Pay What You Can
Once again Dancin’ Oxford and Pegasus Theatre bring three stunning commissions to celebrate the 11th year of MOVING WITH THE TIMES. This FIRST LOOK sees the work-in-progress from the companies that are explosive, moving and thought-provoking. The final pieces will be presented on 4-5 March 2022.
This year we are delighted to be showing work from Phoebe Tompsett Dance, Excessive Human Collective, and Night People Events.
THE DAILY MALE sees Tompsett Dance combine contemporary dance and physical theatre to cast a stark light on the measures that women are forced to take every day simply to remain safe. Underpinned by raw, real-life interviews and outrageous online comments, this work questions whether the modern-day women is truly liberated without her safety.
Excessive Human Collective presents POST TRUTH WHATEVER, a darkly humorous show which explores hypernormalisation, political double-speak and how digital tools are used to disseminate information. Using highly physical movement, text and video, the performers create and broadcast propaganda in a fictional world which is eerily similar to our own.
SHOW ME welcomes to stage contemporary dancer, Daisy Howell, immersed in the Digital Projections of Artist, Howl Creative and the electronic sounds of DJ, LSMarley. The work depicts a fiercely joyous and expressive solo female performer, named the ‘The Hype’, presenting an electric acd honest depiction of a female entertainer, who is ignited by club inspired womanhood and bass heavy drops.
Running time: 70 minutes, no interval
