Moving the Boundaries
With Cecilia Macfarlane and Caroline Potter: ‘Learning to Feel’
Presented by FreeFall Dance (Oxford University’s student dance company)
Covenor: Miranda Laurence. Cecilia Macfarlane is an independent dance artist with a national reputation for her work in the community. She is the founding director of Oxford Youth Dance, DugOut Adult Community Dance and Crossover Intergenerational Dance Company, and is a Senior Lecturer in Arts in the Community at Coventry University.
Caroline Potter is based at Oxford's Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, where she completed her DPhil in the anthropology of dance. Her research focused on the cultural shaping of the body and sensory experience during professional contemporary dance training.
This event is part of a series of informal seminars exploring the intersections between dance and academic discipline. Everyone is welcome, whether with an academic background, a background in dance, or neither. We particularly welcome dance artists who are not members of Oxford University, and hope to combine presentations by the speakers with an active, open discussion.** All are welcome to stay for refreshments and conversation after the last of the seminars on 5th March. Please email miranda.laurence@merton.ox.ac.uk for any further details.
This seminar series has been organised with the support of Claire Thompson and the Dancin Oxford Festival 2008
