Dance and Academia – (Re)Moving the Boundaries

With Susie Crow and Emily Lim: ‘Dance and Narrative’

Covenor: Miranda Laurence. Susie Crow danced for twelve years with the Royal Ballet and Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet. She now works as an independent ballet choreographer and teacher. She recently choreographed 'Black Maria', an adaptation of a book by Diana Wynne Jones, at Sadler's Wells Theatre.

Emily Lim is studying Classics at Oxford University. In her time here she has directed various productions, most recently her own adaptation of 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' at the Oxford Playhouse, which used a wide range of movement-based methods to bring the story to the stage.

This event is part of a series of informal seminars exploring the intersections between dance and academic discipline. Everyone is welcome, whether with an academic background, a background in dance, or neither. We particularly welcome dance artists who are not members of Oxford University, and hope to combine presentations by the speakers with an active, open discussion.** All are welcome to stay for refreshments and conversation after the last of the seminars on 5th March. Please email miranda.laurence@merton.ox.ac.uk for any further details..

This seminar series has been organised with the support of Claire Thompson and the Dancin Oxford Festival 2008
