Big Danc’in Oxford…..
Be a part of it.

The world’s biggest and most influential dance initiative is coming to Oxford next month.
Our aim is to take dance out of the stuffy, confined studio walls and set it free in the big outdoors…
On Sunday 4th July, in collaboration with the renowned Cowley Road Carnival, Big Dance is hosting exciting event s throughout the day and there are still chances for you to get involved and be a part of the phenomenon…

A Dancing Picnic in the Park
***Looking for performers, old and young, experienced and new!***

A wonderful opportunity to dance in collaboration with the landscape – to explore your surroundings and to create an innovative piece of site-specific work!
Renowned choreographer and dance artist Cecilia Macfarlane has been commissioned to create a piece of work in the peaceful surroundings Headington Hill Park. We are looking for people with some (any) dance experience, and asking you to come with a friend/family/neighbour of any age who may not yet have dance experience. Together you will have the opportunity to dance, make music, make costumes and props and perform in this enchanting site-specific work.
We have musician Malcolm Atkins and artist Kay Sentence who are joining the project to collaborate with us on making a fun and playful piece which will include all the ingredients for a really good picnic!

The Schedule*
2.30 – 5.30 Saturday 19th June , 2.30 – 5.30 Sunday 20th June
2.30 – 5.30 Saturday 26th June , 2.30 – 5.30 Sunday 27th June
2.30 – 5.30 Saturday 3rd July Dress Rehearsal
5.30 – 7.30 Sunday 4th July Warm up and Performance
*All dates are in the park regardless of the weather!!!
The schedule is compact but rather intense. I do hope you can make it.
Please let Cecilia know as soon as possible if you would like to ‘join the dance’, even if you are unable to make all rehearsal dates.

Flashmob

We are calling out to everyone to take part in this mass movement! The flashmob will capture you by surprise at some point in the day, when Big Dance gets you moving with a specially-created phrase… learn it, surrender to the beat and join the masses!
In the next few weeks there will be various chances to learn the phrase…Keep an eye on the website for updates: www.dancinoxford.co.uk

Big Dance Rep Opportunity
**Paid**

There are still opportunities for reps to help out with the running of the day, watch dance all day and get paid to do so!
Rep duties include:
- meeting and greeting dance groups and showing them where to go
- backstage management
- audience ushering

There are two rep slots, afternoon (Dance Stage) and evening (Site-specific performance), and a small fee will be available to cover expenses and time. If you are interested in being a rep for the Big Dance activities, please email Miranda – mlaurence@oxford.gov.uk – by June 18th with your availability and preferred slot for being a rep. Please tell us if there are any times during the day when you are NOT available (even if it’s the morning).

For any more information, email Miranda on mlaurence@oxford.gov.uk or call 08165 252820.

Please take up these fantastic opportunities to get involved in one of Oxford’s most vibrant, exciting and diverse celebrations of the year. We hope to hear from you soon and see you there on the day!

Arch was utterly betwitching! Exquisite movements led us through a truely enchanting environment. I left the performance feeling thoroughly inspired!

Arch was a truly inspiring performance, so many individual ideas, set in the most unusual and fitting of venues... what a feast for eyes and ears!

Arch was a feast for the senses. A beautiful performance in a stunning, atmospheric setting.

I was offered the last available ticket to Arch's performance at Worcester College by complete chance, or good fortune, as it turned out. I enjoyed the interplay between spaces, dancers, singers, and musicians, finding it inspired and inspiring. As a visual artist and having seen other site-specific work, I am particularly aware of the inter-active nature of the piece. The dancers (in their "nakedness" as students, free from the trappings of what it means to be at Oxford University) brought the college to life for me. They, with the help of all who accompanied them, especially the choir and musicians, also provoked me to think a bit more about the fluctuations and evolution which accompany being a student. I found the whole experience audio-visually and conceptually stimulating. Thank you. I'm grateful that the Arts Council England made this performance possible.
